WHO WE ARE

An LGBTQIA comedy production company.

We create variety stage productions, films and host shows & events at our DUMBO, Brooklyn Studio, nicknamed The Rainbow Den. We also partner with WOW Cafe Theater in the East Village which borders Alphabet City.

Comedy shows may include improv, sketch, stand up, characters, music, song, dance, drag, clown/mime, puppetry, film, storytelling and more.

We have two queer improv house teams: The Rainbow Squad and Unicorn Sparkles.

Our studio is brand new and we are in the works of making it available for rehearsal and self tape rentals. We are opening a comedy school "The Performance School of Comedy." We are also adding in a photo/film studio! Show/event submissions are on a selective application basis for collaboration and will be promoted under The Alphabet City Laughs brand.

Mission Statement

We are a comedy production company for LGBTQIA voices. Queerness influences the culture, personality and ideas of our shows. As actors, writers and directors we have been marginalized in comedy theater by being made into the joke or minimized to a stereotype, often of a white cis male narrative. We will topple that systematic oppression with our shows and tell you who we really are according to us, hilariously unfiltered.

Where else is camp originated from but queerness? There is a desire to express oneself colorfully, exaggeratively and loudly that comes from being oppressed. Queer culture has improvisational elements; it can influence speech, body language and physicality. Our community has always been drawn the arts and performance.

Drag is a staple of popular culture in theater and film/tv, often limited to portrayal by straight cis men playing women. Gender performance is only permitted however so long as is it is not associated with queerness and called the word "drag." Then it is banned.

With the recent don't say gay bills, the removal of equal protection, restricted healthcare access and heightened crime rates against BIPOC and trans people, the LGBTQIA community is struggling to be safe or feel understood. Through our shows, we can speak freely, express ourselves and create an environment to share in the joy of laughter.

Comedy can originate from embarrassment, the fear and realization of being seen and embracing it. Alphabet City Laughs Productions creates a welcoming environment for queer people to be themselves on stage and be SEEN. We are all about being weird and goofy at our company and proud of it!
